The Visual Arts Section provides creation, production and dissemination support in the fields of architecture, crafts, photography and the visual arts, as well as for the acquisition of works by Canadian artists. In addition to funding the activities of independent artists, museums, artist-run centres and other professional arts organizations, the Council encourages the work of independent critics and curators.

The objective of the Foundation is to promote, by its charitable activities, an appreciation of traditional expression in painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking, by aiding worthy art students, artists or sculptors who need further training or other assistance during their formative years.

Island Mountain Arts, through the generous donations of past and present supporters, is able to provide financial assistance, to those students who show high levels of aptitude and who seek to further develop their skills in a specific area of the arts. Scholarships and bursaries can be applied to any program offered by Island Mountain Arts. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of achievement and ability. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need and ability.
